Ahmed El Maghraby
Minister of Tourism, Egypt


Before joining the Egyptian Cabinet, and in 2002, he was selected Member of the Economic Committee, the National Democratic Party (NDP). In 1998, Mr. El Maghraby, was appointed Member of the Board, the Future Foundation; and in 2000, he was appointed Board Member, the Future Generation Foundation. The Future Generation Foundation is an NGO primarily concerned with the development of the youth's economic and educational well-being. Between the years 1996 and 2002, Mr. El Maghraby served as member of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Tourism and in 1997 he was elected by the Egyptian tourism private sector, to hold the position of, Chairman of the Egyptian Federation of Tourist Chambers. He served in this position until 2002.

Prior to his current post, Mr. El Maghraby held the positions of a Board Member, and in most cases Shareholder, in a number of prominent business groups in Egypt including, El- Maghraby Group; the Egyptian French Co. for food industries, VITRAC; Accor Egypt, the largest hotel management group in Egypt; the Nile Companies for Agricultural Development; El-Maghraby & El-Mansour Group for Investment and Development and Macor Investment Co.

Mr. Ahmed El Maghraby has extensive experience in the Financial and Economic sectors. In 1990, he joined efforts with a group of leading Egyptian businessmen and economic experts, and founded the Egyptian Centre for Economic Studies. In 2002 he became Board Member HSBC Bank. Between 1997 and 1999, he held the position of Member of the Board and Shareholder the Arab African Bank; and between 1972 and 1984 he held the position of the Managing Director and Shareholder, Saudi Arabian Investment Co. In 1970 and till 1972, Mr. Ahmed El Maghraby joined Merrill Lynch as a Stockbroker. This was preceded by the position of Financial Expert, Metropolitan Co., New York between 1968 and 1970.
Mr. El Maghraby holds a B.Sc. degree in Chemical Engineering as well as a B.Sc. in Liberal Arts, at North Carolina State University; In addition to an MBA degree, earned at Columbia University, New York, USA.
Mr. Ahmed El Maghraby was born in Egypt in 1945.
