Mr NK Singh is a Member of the Planning Commission (in the rank
of a Minister of State of Government of India) the highest Government
body responsible for allocation of resources to all organs of the
Central Government and to State Governments in the federal set-
up. Mr NK Singh is also Chairman of the Steering Group on Foreign
Direct Investment and of the Steering Group on energy and Transport
policy and National Taskforce on Power Sector Reforms, Hydrogen
Energy and future of the Entertainment sector.
Mr NK Singh has been actively involved in the initiation and implementation
of India's economic reform strategy from 1991. He was Additional
Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs in the Ministry
of Finance and was actively engaged as leader of the delegation
to World Bank, IMF, Asian Development Bank and other multi- lateral
institutions. Subsequently he served as Expenditure Secretary in
the Ministry of Finance and later as Revenue Secretary in- charge
of India's tax policies. As a former Secretary to the Prime Minister
of India, he was the main advisor on all economic issues, including
foreign direct investment, energy, transport, and tax and infrastructure
policy. He carries with him a rich cross- sectoral experience in
areas as diverse as internal security, trade policy and multilateral
trade negotiations, energy sector investment and telecommunications.
Mr Singh has a wide range of national and international experience
having interacted closely with multilateral organizations like UNCTAD,
GATT, WTO, UNDP and OECD. He was the first Chairman of the Global
