Washington, DC Overview Tour

Date: Wednesday 12 April

Time: 14.30 - 17.30

Depart: Washington Convention Center

In terms of sheer physical splendor, our nation's capital rivals the great power centers of Europe: Paris, London, Rome, and Athens. Witness the city's stately splendor by visiting the striking landmarks presented during today's narrated riding tour. Follow the inaugural parade route to Capitol Hill, passing the Federal Triangle government buildings and the monolithic FBI Building along the way. Make your way down the tree-lined Mall, whose green and peaceful expanse is flanked on either side by the museums of the illustrious Smithsonian Institution.

On your motor coach, pass by the temple-like Jefferson Memorial. This monument to the author of the Declaration of Independence lays at edge of the Tidal Basin, whose lovely cherry blossoms attract throngs of visitors every spring. We continue the driving tour of the Tidal Basin and the National Mall, where the Washington Monument towers as a beacon of inspiration. Ride by the FDR Memorial, an educational tribute to Franklin Roosevelt and early 20th Century America as well. Stop at the Lincoln Memorial and admire the immense, brooding figure of Abraham Lincoln keeping watch over the city. Near the Lincoln Memorial, pause at the powerful and moving Vietnam Veterans Memorial , a seemingly endless stretch of black granite on which are engraved the names of the many thousands of American soldiers lost during the Vietnam War. Also, nearby is the Korean Veterans Memorial, depicting a troop's march through the rice fields of Korea. Ride by the WWII Memorial a moving tribute to those who changed the course of world history before returning to the hotel.
