Vice Chairman Sebastian Escarrer (Sol Melia)

Mr Escarrer is Vice Chairman of Sol Meliá, the overall Hotel market leader in Spain, the third largest chain in Europe, and the 17th largest in the world as well as the global leader for holidays in Latin America and the Caribbean. Currently Sol Meliá has more than 300 hotels in 26 countries with a workforce of more than 33,000 employees.

Wharton MBA in Business Strategy, Finance and Multinational Management, has held several positions in multinational companies before joining the family Company in 1993, becoming Chief Executive Officer in 1994. His first challenge was to impulse the strategical and organizational renewal process of Sol Meliá.

Always focused on Excellence and Social and Environmental Responsibility, since 2009 he assumed the leadership of the Institutional Office and Corporate Diplomacy, dealing with Sol Meliá's Social Corporate Responsibility, Institutional Relationships, Corporate Communication and Stakeholders' dialogue issues.

Nominated as one of the 100 leading businessmen for the 21st century by the World Economic Forum, he is Chairman of the Wharton Executive Board for the EMEA, the Chairman of Exceltur - the Spanish Travel & Tourism Lobby, and is also a member of the WTTC Executive Committee. The Spanish entrepreneur is also member of the Executive Committee of two Spanish Foundations and is member of the Spanish Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Escarrer forms part of the Advisory Board of Banks such as EuroHypo or the Premium Brands Fund operated by Pictet. He has been elected as the Spanish business leader that generates greatest confidence in 2009.
